Frequently Asked Questions about Hair Transplant

Hair transplant is not suitable when:
- The donor area does not have enough hair
- The patient suffers from unstable vitiligo or psoriasis
- The donor or recipient area is infected
- The patient is suffering from hypertension, keloidal tendency or alopecia areata

The hair transplant method we use in DHI, does not require any precautions before your appointment. Nevertheless, to avoid possible bleeding, it is best if you haven’t used any blood thinners at least seven days prior to your treatment.

After we take the hair from the donor area, our experienced staff counts the hair using a microscope. Also, to ensure transparency, we suggest that patients capture photos of the grafts.

Nearly up to 5-8% of hair can be implanted in the hairline area, a percentage that goes up to 15% if this area is the patient’s main concern.

It is not predefined, but it occurs depending on the shape of the patient’s face, so as to ensure an all-natural result.

Our experienced medical staff works with the patient and carefully designs the hairline, depending on the style that best suits the characteristics of the face. As male and female hairlines differ, we follow the existing curve, receding up on men and curving on women foreheads to get a more natural look. We measure the angles beginning at the lateral-most tip of the eyebrows.

It is not predefined, but it occurs depending on the shape of the patient’s face, so as to ensure an all-natural result.

The glabella, the arch of the eyebrows and the lateral tip of the eyebrows.

Depending on the physical characteristics of the patient's face, especially the corners, we pay extra attention on the sideburns, as they are a continuation of the hairline. Most of the time, we place grafts with single or double roots to get an evenly natural look.

Implants are usually placed following the direction of the existing hair roots. When there is no point of reference, we follow an acute angle.

If you want the most painless Hair Transplant, then you are at right place! The modern techniques and the local anesthesia we use in DHI are so painless, that many patients watch TV, enjoy a meal or even sleep during their treatment!

There is no need to worry, because the local anesthetic we use in our treatments is safe and only paraesthesia in the local area of the implanted grafts may occur, which goes away.

The hairline area has bigger nerves, therefore the anesthetic wears off faster. In order to last longer, we can use superficial intradermal injection or nerve blocks.

Local anesthesia, ring block, and/or nerve block.

In case of supraorbital and supratrochlear blocks and low use of Bupivacaine, the local anesthesia lasts longer.

At DHI we follow strict protocols. Each and every tool and procedure room is carefully sterilized before each session with Basilol, to ensure 100% safety.

In each session, we use instruments such as punches and needles, which are unique for each patient and are destroyed after the treatment, often in front of the patient, as DHI protocols impose. Moreover, the DHI implanter, the unique tool for hair follicles implantation with a diameter up to 1mm, is also destroyed after the session.

There is not a specific timeframe. The punch is advised to be replaced when we encounter too much resistance.

Depending on the quality of hair and scalp, the extraction equipment’s size varies between 0.7 mm to 1.00 mm.

The amount of bleeding during a DHI treatment is very little, especially compared with “FUT” or “Strip” techniques.

We draw a line which begins at the outside of the ear and defines the anterior border of the “safe” area. The superior border – safe donor area starts on the anterior border, which has a 6.5 to 7.0 cm width and narrows as we move on. In the midline of the occipital area, the ultimate donor area is way narrower than the superior area.

A hair extraction session lasts maximum up to 4 hours.

It is advised not to overcome a 6 hour period between the two procedures, as well as a 4 Celsius degrees’ temperature, for graft preservation.

Graft ratio should not be less than 1.6, to ensure best results.

The ideal temperature varies from 0 to 4 degrees Celsius. We make sure the ice packs aren’t changed too often, as this may lead to frequent fluctuations of temperature.

We load the grafts in the DHI implanter and then place them directly in the recipient area. The DHI implanter has needles in various sizes, suitable for all cases, and ensures right direction, depth and angle.

During the implantation, you lie down with an inclined head to the side or sitting position.

The grafts reach 4 to 5 mm depth.

In most cases, the hair is implanted in the same angle as the existing follicles. Generally, the angles ratio is from a very acute angle (15 degrees) on the hairline to 20-30 degrees on zone A & B to 50 degrees on zone C.

In most cases, you can return to your working routine the very next day, as long as you don’t expose yourself to the sun. For activities like cardio and swimming, it is advisable to wait 15 days and for intense workouts, it is advisable to wait at least 4 weeks.

Implanted hair regenerate from stem cells, so at first, they will grow slower than usual.

You can get your first post-transplant haircut in 15 days, but you have to wait at least 45 days to dye your hair.

All implanted hair will live throughout your life exactly like your natural hair and even better, as they are resistant to hair loss-causing hormones.

In most cases, there aren’t any complications after the hair transplant. However, in some cases, patients experienced minor headache, swelling, itching or tenderness at the receiving area, all of which were easily treated with prescribed medicine by our doctors.

After the implantation, normal saline is the buffering solution.

Scarring is very rare in DHI’s hair transplant treatments, while possible scabbing goes off in approximately 5 days.

After the DHI hair transplant, you will be prescribed a 3 day antibiotic and anti-inflammatory course of treatment. In some cases, we may recommend painkillers or cortisone.

Once you have completed your treatment, we recommend you choose one of the DHI product series, such as DHI Extra Mild Shampoo, which strengthens and takes care of your hair, with improved composition and natural ingredients from the Mediterranean.

You don’t have to take any medication, because the implanted hair won’t fall. Our medical staff might recommend a PRP or minoxidil treatment, to prevent your existing hair from growing weaker and/or falling

In the extraction process, we remove the follicles (roots) so hair can’t grow back. However, in some cases (up to 10%), hair grew back due to an amount of root left behind.

We make sure they don’t. The technique we use (DHI Direct) ensures the careful and safe placement of the grafts at a specific distance between them, so that both grafts and existing hair won’t be affected. This way, we also prevent hair follicles from shock loss.

Our innovative DHI methods leave no visible scarring, just a small redness that lasts no more than a week after the hair transplant.

It is best if you don’t wear anything on the donor and implanted area, for at least 15 days post-treatment, in order to avoid any damage to your new hair.

Body and scalp hair transplantation methods are almost identical, but have in mind that body hair does not grow as fast and as much as scalp hair.
